About Detroit EventFinder
What is it?
The site is for all the events that often go unnoticed!
DetroitEventFinder is a website with a primary focus on local Events, where events are submitted by everyday people or businesses in Detroit. Unlike the other sites with Major events, advertising, user fees, etc… this site is for the smaller folk. The events that often go unnoticed. The best part is we keep it FREE! However donations to keep the site running are always appreciated.
What is it Not?
A site for spammers or people looking to promote illegal activities.
History:
The project started back a few years ago when a group of people weres tired of not being able to find stuff to do. They found themselves reading several newspapers, pulling flyers down, and driving around to locate garage sales and other activities. Sure there were online event sites, but the problem was that they focused on the BIG events. These people wanted to know about the small group get togethers at the local bingo hall, bar, or club. Those big sites never really covered that and still don’t, unless it had hundreds of people attending, plus many of the larger sites flood users with tons of advertisements, which are so annoying when trying to load a page at times.
So thus Detroiteventfinder was created. Being a local Detroiter, we took on this project realizing that the Detroit Area is huge and stuff is like happening everywhere, every day in the area and just in Michigan. As development kicked off, several people got engaged to help support the effort. We have now undergone multiple variations of the site to provide what we think is a usable interface.
Objective:
- To provide the Detroit Area Community a resource that provides a collection of local events and activities for everyone to enjoy and to develop an interactive user community that contributes, rates, and discusses these events.
- Provide a capability for that s the creation of Private or Public events that require attendance, allowing the creator to manage and share event information with.
- Provide Social Networking capabilities for event sharing and people networking that has the functionality to link to 3rd party resources, such as FaceBook and Twitter for Social Bookmarking activities.
- Build a reporting system to flag spammers.
Summary:
Although we try to keep up on finding local events, it is very hard to build new functionality and maintain the site, the future of the site depends on YOU. We ask that people like yourself, contributors, that have shown an interest to post events and spreading the word to others. The project is funded through generous donations and a few sponsors, so the more help we get from you, the better the site will become for everyone in the Detroit area.
As we continually update the site and build new features, we hope that you enjoy this site now and years to come.
